Kristina Huber is a clinical psychology practicum student at Chicago DBT Institute. She has previously earned a master’s degree in forensic psychology. Kristina recently earned her second master’s degree in clinical psychology and is working towards a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Midwestern University. In terms of her experience, she has previously worked as a therapist in a prison for women. This opportunity allowed her to work with women from a variety of different backgrounds and clinical concerns including personality disorders, substance use, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and trauma. More recently, she worked for a county court where she conducted psychology evaluations for adult offenders to provide treatment recommendations with the goal of reducing the risk of recidivism. As such, Kristina has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to how environments and systems can exacerbate and maintain mental health symptoms.
Kristina's approach to therapy is to create a nonjudgmental therapeutic environment by meeting the client where they are at. She strives to remind the client that they are the experts on their life and her job is to guide them towards aligning with their goals and values. Kristina does this through direct communication, humor, validation, and authenticity.
In her spare time, Kristina enjoys crocheting, reading, and spending time with her two dogs. You may even find one of her dogs spending time in the office.
